LIONS CLUB OF BALLINA > LEOS CLUB PROJECT

LEOS CLUB PROJECT

Leo clubs are an official activity of Lions Clubs International that encourages young men and women to serve others in their community and around the world.

Leo clubs are sponsored by local lions clubs and may be either school-affiliated or community based.

Leo club activities include regular meetings, service projects and social functions.

The LEO motto - Leadership, Experience, Opportunity - is fulfilled as members work together in response to the needs of others. LEO also stands for Lets Enjoy Ourselves

BALLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEO CLUB

With Ballina High School and Southern Cross High School combining in 2018 to form a new super school - Ballina Coast High School, the two Leo Clubs combined to become Ballina Coast High School Leos Club effective 1 July 2019. Ballina High Leos Club was closed down and Southern Cross High Leos Club was renamed Ballina Coast High Leos Club. Both Ballina Lions and Ballina East Lions Clubs jpointly sponsor the new Leos club with a coordinator from each club appointed to liaise with the Leos Club.

The original Ballina High School Leo Club was formed in March 2004 and chartered on 8 June 2004 with an initial membership of 20 students, two Lions advisors Lions Mary Jack & Joyce Emmett and one school advisor Ms Helen Poulos.

Ballina Coast High School Leo Club meets fortnightly during school terms at the lunch period with the Lions Club advisors and school advisor present. The students run the meetings, learning meeting procedures planning activities and recording minutes of their decisions. The members form themselves into two committees Projects and Publicity and these committees meet independently of the general meetings as the need arises.

The Ballina Coast High School Leo Club aims to benefit communities at a school, local, regional, state, national and international level. The Club members believe that their projects foster a social conscience in their members and community, one which will hopefully affect them later in life as they push for international tolerance and equality.

To meet these aims, Leos participate in a wide variety of community based activities, hoping to foster a willingness to organise and complete volunteer work. The club works closely with their sponsors, Ballina and Ballina East Lions Clubs, who are able to provide the guidance, resources and skills which they need.
